The goal of our Mission Team is to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to our community, nation and world through our support of individuals and organizations who are motivated by the love of God to serve in Missions.

We do this by:

  • providing mission service opportunities to members of ESUMC
  • encouraging our congregation in missions giving, and prayerfully selecting partners to support with mission funds
  • communicating related activities to the congregation

Family Promise of Monroe County is part of a national organization that helps homeless and low income families by providing shelter, education and access to local resources. Along with prayer and financial support, ESUMC, on a rotating basis with several other churches, provides dinner and overnight shelter to participating families. Many ESUMC volunteers are sharing the love of Jesus by doing whatever it takes to make these families comfortable while they stay with us.

FMI – forgotten Missionaries International

FMI supports Christians in predominantly Muslim countries, such as Indonesia and Pakistan, by supporting local pastors, evangelists and congregations, providing advocacy in times of persecution, planting churches, supplying Bibles, and other means. ESUMC’s gift in 2019 was used by FMI to open eight Sewing and Literacy centers, enabling hundreds of women to learn to read using a Bible and to learn sewing skills that will help them support their families.

Intervarsity Christian Fellowship establishes Christian communities of students on college campuses. ESUMC supports Ryan and Jasmin Moyer, IVCF leaders at Temple University. Ryan and Jasmin encourage students to be witnesses for Jesus Christ on and off the Temple campus. Students lead Bible studies and worship nights, enabling them to reach their full potential as Christian leaders.

TPP’s mission is to meet the needs of the Germantown community through free home repair, preschool, and after-school childcare. ESUMC’s youth travel to TPP for summer mission trips, and sometimes “blitz” weekends, working with TPP doing home repair, assisting at summer camp, or doing street evangelism. The youth often find that their relationship with Jesus Christ grows when their mission work is combined with the Bible studies, small group discussions, prayer and worship that TPP staff leads each evening.

Pocono Plateau, a year round Christian camp and retreat center in Cresco, PA is dedicated to making disciples for Jesus Christ. Campers experience the gospel through recreation, challenges and reflection. Many ESUMC members have attended the camp, and we have also held church retreats there. ESUMC has recently fulfilled a challenge grant to provide a new Team Challenge ropes course at Pocono Plateau.

PRC exists to share the love of Christ with women and families in unexpected pregnancy situations. They provide a variety of free services including pregnancy verification, parenting education, counseling and ultrasounds. Several members of ESUMC volunteer at PRC.

ESUMC is part of a network of local churches which support the Re-Entry Program. This is a transitional program for ex-offenders that offers counseling, job training and assistance in finding housing. The Re-Entry Program recently opened a house for women ex-offenders.

The mission of Ripe Creatives is to share the good news of the gospel of Christ through creative expression, and to disciple, train and equip Christian artists to engage with the world around them. ESUMC supports Scott and Darlene Smith, who mainly serve in Philadelphia. Scott is a speaker, primarily to youth, and writes and speaks spoken word, while Darlene coordinates events.

ESUMC is one of several churches in the Poconos that support Pastor Valeri Patkevitch at the Church of the Transfiguration in Volgograd, Russia. In 2019 seven members of ESUMC traveled to Volgograd to meet members of Pastor Valeri’s church and gain a better understanding of Russian culture and the challenges of being a member of the United Methodist Church in Russia.

Shores of Grace is a worship and missionary ministry currently headquartered in Recife, Brazil. The focus of the ministry, which was founded by Nic and Rachael Billman, is to set those in prostitution and abuse free and to walk them through restoration. The staff and volunteers in Brazil take the love of the Father to the poor and the broken, and help them see their true value, while equipping and serving the church.

An expansion of the ministry, Shores Philly, was opened in 2016 and is led by Luke and Alisan Billman. Luke and Alisan’s vision is to equip the residents of North Philadelphia to restore their neighborhoods and families. The ministry’s focus will be on shifting the culture so that the streets are safe for children to play. Shores of Grace – Freedom, Rescue, Restoration, Redemption, Equipping
